May PTA Newsletter

Hurrah, It’s May!

The Fiddlers PTA is thrilled to announce that we will be receiving an Arts Grant in the amount of $500 from the Utah PTA Arts Education Fund, with donations from the Beverley Taylor Sorenson and the Utah Arts Council.  This money will make it possible for the PTA to continue to fund the growing needs of our amazing Mustang choir under the direction of Director, Lara Reber and pianist, Candace Eberhard!  Don’t miss the choir concert this Friday, May 10th at 2:30 p.m.in the gym.

Congratulations to our May Spirit of Sorrel Spotlight recipients:  teacher: Sharon Smith; staff: Jean Peterson; volunteer: Tammy Hulet.  All three of these recipients will be concluding their service at Fiddlers Elementary.  The PTA would like to sincerely thank them for their many years of service and dedication to the students at Fiddlers!

Friday, April 26th was Arbor Day and Fiddlers Elementary made the tree branches blow with its first ever Arbor Day celebration.  Thanks so much to Maggie Lewis for making the festivities possible.  These events included a tree planting ceremony as a way to thank teachers and students for recycling throughout the year.  Two new trees were planted on either side of the front entrance of the school.  Thanks so much to Lady Bug Nursery for donating one of the trees.   Woodsy Owl, the Bear, and Forester Patrick Moore made the event a roaring success!  Fiddlers Elementary would like to thank The Sustainability Center at Southern Utah University for including them in this year’s recycling program.  The event also included an Art contest.  Students drew pictures to express what “Trees Mean to Me.” (The winners of this event are listed at the end of the newsletter.)  The day concluded with the showing of the Lorax that evening in the gym.  This event was free to Fiddlers students and their families.

Remember this week May 6-10th is Teacher Appreciation week.  We would like to extend a special thanks to Allison Maxwell and Shanna Coder for going the extra mile in serving our teachers this year.  On Wednesday, May 8th the teachers will enjoy a special luncheon in the teachers’ lounge thanks to their efforts as well as various other acts of appreciation throughout the week.  We would like to encourage you to take moment to personally “thank” your child’s teacher as well!

Thanks so much for supporting the Chili’s PTA fundraiser and the Lion’s Kite for flight; both were successful events.  Please mark your calendars: Monday, May 13th is our fundraiser at Dairy Queen.  The PTA would like to thank Leah Madsen and Kendra Flake for coordinating our fundraising events throughout the year.  Also, please remember to continue to collect Box Tops throughout the summer break as well as Lin’s receipts.  This summer, be sure to turn in your Lin’s receipts at  Lin’s at the Customer Service desk.  Thanks so much to Patty Brinkerhoff and Susie Benson for overseeing box tops this year as well as thanks to Christy Florence for managing the Lin’s receipts.

The Fiddlers Elementary Battle of the Books competitions will be taking place this week.  Thank you to Mrs. Stubbs and Heather Stonely for making this program so incredibly successful this year.

The yearbooks have arrived!  Thanks so much to Frances Merdes for the unbelievable amount of work she did to make the yearbook possible.  Yearbooks will be distributed Wednesday, May 22nd.  There is a very small amount of yearbooks still left for purchase.  Please contact the office if you would like to buy one.

The PTA Wednesday after school snack sales will soon come to a close.  Thanks so much to Jen Watson for organizing and executing snack sales each and every Wednesday!    We would also like to thank  Michelle Adams for her Friday Fluoride ritual and to Amy Holmes and Aimee Bulloch for the Bulletin Board each month.

Spring Arts Night, Elevate the Arts, is this Friday from 5:30 to 8:30 at Fiddlers Elementary.  Don’t miss this evening as the students at Fiddlers celebrate the arts through music and visual Arts.  There will be food, Fun Time Inflatables, and live music at the back of the school.  “Thank  you”  to Jen MacInnis and Jilllynne Fullmer for making this evening possible.  Please be sure to check out the amazing art project on display in the gym… it will lift you “up, up and away.”  We would like to thank Mrs. Bergstrom and Ken Pabo for making this project possible!

Summer Matinee Movie  punch cards will also be available for purchase the evening  of Spring Arts Night.  Kids and accompanying guardians will enjoy 12 classic G rated movies for only $15.   You won’t want to miss this deal for fun!

On a personal note, I would like to thank Mr. Moyle, Mrs. Topham, faculty, staff, parents and volunteers for making this a most incredible and gratifying year for me!  The PTA Possee (Board)  has made many things possible.  These volunteers know how to go the “extra mile.”  Never once did I have to worry about an event, project, or detail… they are simply amazing!!!  Thanks to the Executive PTA Board: Tonia Ashdown, Mackenzie Stratton, and Kim Jacobs for showing me the ropes!  But above all thanks to my sweet husband and our five amazing children who sacrificed so much in allowing me to serve!  I am so thankful for this experience.  Best Wishes to Kim Jacobs and her PTA Board in the coming school year!  You are going to love your adventure!
