Community Council Minutes PDF Print E-mail

The Fiddlers Canyon Elementary Community Council met on August 25, 2010.  They approved the following walk-safe plan.

The following elements should be taken into consideration as parents plan their child’s walking/riding route to school:

  1. Fiddlers Canyon Road and Nichols Canyon Road are the only east/west through streets in our walking area.

  2. Students walking from east Fiddlers Canyon or from Ashdown Forest subdivisions should cross at the intersection of DL Sargent and Fiddlers Canyon.

  3. Students coming down from west Fiddlers Canyon should cross DL Sargent and Wedgwood at the 4-way stop on Wedgwood and DL Sargent.

  4. Students coming in from the west of Wedgwood should make their way to Wedgwood, then stay on the west side of that street as they walk toward the school.  They should then make their way to the intersection of Wedgwood and DL Sargent and cross to the school at the 4-way stop.

  5. Students living toward the west end of the Fiddlers Canyon subdivision should use Wedgwood to walk to school, staying on the east side.  They should cross at the 4-way stop at DL Sargent Drive.

Although it is not the best of crossings, students who live just south of Fiddlers Canyon Road should cross at the intersection of Wedgwood and Fiddlers Canyon.  Our PTA and the school administration will continue to work on making this crossing safer.  Crossing at the traffic light at KB Oil is not recommended for these children because it is too busy.

The Community Council also approved the following goals for 2010-2011:

1) There will be a 2% increase in the number of students who achieve benchmark scores on the math and language arts end-of-level tests

2) There will be an increase of the number of parents who feel that the school keeps them well-informed about their child’s progress in school as measured by the spring parent survey

3) With the help of the PTA, the school will acquire and use at least seven more “tech carts,” each consisting of a laptop, an LCD projector, and a document camera

4)  There will be an increased emphasis on student physical fitness.
