- The school improvement plan for 2013-2014 was discussed and updated by the council.
- Meeting was adjourned.
February 25, 2013
The City's Engineer Department conducted a detailed investigation during the month of February to determine whether flashing lights or a crossing guard could be added to improve pedestrian safety near Fiddlers Elementary School. The data showed that we have too few students crossing most of our streets in order to warrant a crossing guard or flashing lights. However, the City Engineer, Mr. Kit Wareham, stated that the city will work funding into the city's budget to pay for a new crosswalk to be placed at the intersection of N Wedgewood Lane and E Fiddlers Canyon Drive. The new crosswalk will cross E Fiddlers Canyon Drive at that intersection. Since the city conducted their investigation during a winter month, it was conceded that the city would take another look in a spring or fall month to verify their findings.

Iron County School District Traffic Safety Committee Presentation:
Following Police Chief Allinson's guidance we presented our concerns to the ICSD Traffic Safety Committee at 3:00pm. It was conceded that the city should do their own data gathering and cost analysis for putting further safety measures to protect pedestrians to the South of Fiddlers Elementary. This will start to occur within a month's time. We will keep the community updated to future findings.

- 10 North Main Street at 4:00pm
- Presentation to the City Council (Click to download)
Council Meeting Minutes:
We presented our concerns and findings to the city council. Most of the council was present. The council agreed that action should be taken to make our student pedestrians more safe. The police chief was present and clarified that we need to take some more steps before the city is able to run it's own investigation. He is helping to guide us in order to keep the ball rolling. We will keep the community apprised of any updates in this matter.

Council Meeting Agenda:
- New community input
- Council member training and signatures
- Assignment reports
- School zone project planning
- Review of assignments and upcoming dates
Council Meeting Minutes:
- Business - Meeting was brought to order at 3:00pm. Mr. Moyle was asked to send out the training document to all members. It was brought to the council's attention that some parents would like more benches placed on the southern side of the school for waiting purposes.
- Reports - Council members reported on their assignments from last meeting concerning our walk safety plan and presenting to the city council on concerns for our students' safety.
- Planning - It was suggested that we create a report of our findings to present to the city council once we have gained permission to present in one of their meetings. Each member will share their individual findings in order to create such a report.
Next Meeting:
The council's next meeting is currently undecided. We hope to get on the city council's agenda soon. This will be the next meeting. Once the date is set we will make the community aware and invite all to attend that would like to give the council input on student safety near Fiddlers Elementary.

The committe reviewed the 2012-2013 Student Achievement Plan, the ICSD Goals, the Walk-to-School Safety Plan, and the School Land Trust Plan. A focus for the meeting and the committee this year is an attempt to get the city council to create a school zone with flashing lights along North Wedgewood Lane.
The community council's next meeting is scheduled for October 24th at 3:00 in the school's media center. The focus of the agenda will be to review data gathered concerning a school zone on Wedgewood Lane. Community members are welcome.
